Abstract

Th( relationship between the unit size in reading and the speed ofacquisition and generalization was studied. A within-subject design was l/sed to evaluate the separate injZuence of three different units: letters, syllables and words. It was found, in regard lo unit size, that general/y, this variable did not influence the speed of acquisition. The performance of two subjects was affected by words. The data revealed that generalization was larger lor letters and syllables in the six subjects. S()me conclusions are suggested based in the data.
