Una interpretación de la globalización: un giro en la teoría sociológica

Resumen

Los estudiosos de la globalización y de los programas de investigación sobre las múltiples modernidades (Shmuel N. Eisenstadt) han llevado a cabo ciertos giros en la teoría sociológica desde los años noventa. Los estudios sobre América Latina, Asia oriental y Japón, sobre el fundamentalismo islámico y el terrorismo, han hecho evidente que la vía de la institucionalización de la modernización occidental no es el modelo de modernización establecido por la globalización. El resultado de esta investigación sobre la globalización es que la resistematización de un “tercer programa de investigación sobre las múltiples modernidades” de los diferentes tipos de modernización van de la mano con la globalización y la glocalización y que impactan en los subsistemas de comunicación social. En este trabajo se analizan las diversas perspectivas sobre la globalización que provienen de los campos teóricos que enfatizan tanto la heterogeneidad como la homogeneidad del proceso; se enfoca en los estudios de la globalidad y el fin del reclamo universalizante de la globalización occidental y, por último, se analizan tanto las múltiples modernidades como un rasgo de la evolución socioestructural así como los componentes de la modernidad para, de allí, aterrizar en el tercer programa de investigación y las consecuencias teóricas de la nueva versión de la teoría de la modernización.
