Analysis of the economic and social scope of federal programs to combat poverty in the population of Chiapas from 2012 to 2021

Abstract

Chiapas is a state with characteristics that make it one of the poorest areas of the country: the southern area, which is why it was decided to analyze it, since it has the first place in poverty and extreme poverty at the national level.

The State has made use of social policy as a means to combat poverty, this applied under the heading of social development in the Federal Expenditure Budget and specifically, each six-year term has a social program that heads this purpose. During Enrique Peña's government it was the "PROSPERA" program and in the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, rather than promoting just one program, through the Ministry of Welfare a series of programs have been promoted that seek to reach the majority of the population that is in poverty.

For this reason, it was also considered important to focus the analysis on family income to determine whether or not there is an impact when receiving transfers from social programs, adding the component of the gap that exists between women and men, since not only are the differences intensified in terms of the hours they dedicate to both paid and unpaid work and the types of work they have access to.
