Abstract

Arnoldo Mora Rodriguez refers in this article to the vision of Martí in his essay Nuestra América, in which he professes that, independence from the colonial metropolis having once been obtained, the Latin American and Caribbean countries now have to forge their second independence, an independence that breaks the bonds of Imperial slavery to the United States, the new hegemonic power in this zone. This task ―the Costa Rican philosopher affirms― has not only preoccupied these countries throughout the twentieth century, but also at the dawn of the twenty-first.
