Perception of the Doctor-Patient Relationship Quality in Cases of Systemic Hypertension

Abstract

Objective: to identify the perception of doctor-patient relationship quality in cases of systemic hypertension (sh). Material and methods: observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study; carried out between March 2011 and January 2013. Through random sampling including 100 patients of both genders between 40 and 60 years of age, diagnosed with sh attending the Family Medicine Unit (fmu) no. 94, of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (imss), in Mexico City, who answered a Patient-Doctor Relationship Questionnaire. For statistical analysis it was used the spss v.20 program. Results: of the 100 patients, 84% had sh controlled, 54% referred of having good communication with their doctor, 28% regular communication, and 18% little or poor communication. In terms of accessibility of the doctor to the patient: 60% patients reported that their physicians were accessible with them, 26% regularly accessible and 14% inaccessible. The degree of satisfaction of patients according to the quality of medical care turned out: 53% satisfactory, 27% regular, and 20% unsatisfactory. Conclusions: patients with controlled sh referred good relationship with their physician and satisfied with the care received in 49%, in contrast patients with no control only 4% were satisfied.
