Effect of a Socio-Educational Intervention in Women Victims of Domestic Violence in a Family Medicine Unit in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico

Abstract

Objective: to determine the effect of a socio-educational intervention in women victims of domestic violence. Methods: quasi-experimental study in women from 20 to 59 years old who suffered from domestic violence attached to the Family Medicine Unit (fmu) no. 1 in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. Psychological resources were assessed with the Rivera Heredia and Perez Padilla scale, depression with the dsm iv and anxiety with the Hamilton scale- before and after a socio-educational intervention. The obtained information was analyzed using the χ², McNemar and Wilcoxon tests. Results: a sample of 20 patients with an average age of 44 ±14.47 years was analyzed; 70% came from urban areas and 80% of nuclear families; 70% had depression, 85% anxiety; the distribution of resources was 15% emotional, instrumental 20% and social 35% at the beginning of the study. After the strategy, it was registered 25% depression (p=0.003), 45% anxiety (p=0.016), 50% affective resource (p=0.008), 45% instrumental (p=0.025) and 50% social (p=0.083). Conclusion: the socio-educational intervention increased the psychological resources and diminished mental disorders in women victims of domestic violence.
