Abstract

One of the features of emerging technologies is the convergence of different types of knowledge, which are combined to meet various phenomena. The convergence involves collaboration between distinct disciplines and a different way of producing knowledge. Biotechnology is an emerging technology, which requires collaboration at various levels: between scientific disciplines and between academia and industry. This paper analyzes the collaborative patterns in Mexican biotechnology through bibliometric techniques based on consultation of the Science Citation Index, and through interviews with key agents.

Investigador Asociado C, Laboratorio de Redes, Departamento de Modelación Matemá- tica de Sistemas Sociales, del Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y en Sistemas de la UNAM.
