Intercultural education and management of the diversity of indigenous regions in Mexico: The situation of higher education
Main Article Content
Abstract
The creation of intercultural universities in Mexico in 2000 is part of a public policy aiming to offer culturally appropriate education for indigenous peoples. This has been part of a response to the demands which arose during the 1990’s from various organizations and claiming structural reforms which would help to lessen inequalities and recognize diversity, and specifically for the educational sphere. This paper deals with legislation and public policies to manage diversity in education and analyzes these public policies as an answer as far as higher education is concerned: affirmative action and intercultural education, focusing mainly on the second one.
