Decisions at the end of life in Mexico

Abstract

The following essay addresses the issue of decisions at the end of life in Mexico (including the issue of Medically Assisted Death). The reflections are based on some national indicators of mortality in our country, where the phenomenon of death in hospitals is just being equaled the number of deaths that were occurring at home. Therefore, unlike other countries, the focus on issues related to end of life should not concentrate exclusively in hospitals. Some international arguments, elements of the law and the influence of the medical and legal paternalism in Mexico are also presented.
