Transversality in the touristic and cultural policy of the magic town of Metepec, Mexico

Abstract
The issue of cultural tourism policy has become a priority for public administrations in the development of projects linked to tourism and culture; even more so, when one refers to transversality as a renewing action in public policy. In this sense, the present work makes a critical reflection on this type of policy in the municipality of Metepec, one of the so called “Magic Towns” of México. In order to do so, this paper analizes the emergence of transversality in cultural tourism public policies, through the review of several programs of public bodies that promote the development of tourism and culture in Metepec. They do so by implementing transversality and interaction within their dependencies, as well as the application of interviews to diverse social actors in order to get to know their opinions on the issue in question. The study takes into consideration the critical perspective of tourism and culture in order to propose an approach that stresses the importance of transversality in its policies and the interactions between the public bodies involved with this issue.
