Abstract
The following paper describes the situation of lakes in the Basin of Mexico, once initiated the colonial era. Where for the new colonial city, those lakes never had that role as dominant as in ancient times. Colonial city built on the lakes, and, to the problem of continuous flooding, concluded to conduct a drained lakes thereof, through the drain Huehuetoca in 1607. This paper broadly flange us a technical explanation of the Basin, and the reasons for making the draining of lakes, accompanied in turn, a literature recommendation of works on the subject, for those who want to enter the same.
