Abstract

THE INSTALLATION OF BUFFER ZONES IS ONE OF THE SOLUTIONS PROPOSED TO COMBAT SURFACE WATER CONTAMINATION BY PESTICIDES. EXISTING STUDIES SHOW THAT THESE ZONES CAN LIMIT THE TRANSFER OF AGROCHEMICALS TO WATER BODIES. HOW EVER, VERY LITTLE INFORMATION EXISTS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO THE INTERCEPTED PRODUCTS. THEIR EVOLUTION IS RELATED TO THE PHYSIOCHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONING OF THESE BUFFER ZONES. THIS STUDY EXAMINED THE RETENTION OF A HERBICIDE, ISOPROTURON, IN SOILS FROM GRASSED BUFFER STRIPS, FOR EST AREA AND CROPPED SOIL FROM THE ARVALIS EXPERIMENTAL SITE IN LA JAILLIRE, FRANCE.
