Racism And Development: The Uh Najil Tourism Project In Ek Balam, Yucatan
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this paper, by analyzing a development project in a Mayan community in the Mexican state of Yucatan as well as the discourse of its promoters, we want to show how a naturalized racism appears in the visions of the promoters seeking to “help” indigenous communities achieve development. We argue that the idea of development is an aura that disguises a series of power relations that express, implement, and promote a discourse where the racism is present.
