Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of the changing process that has taken place in Mexican edition. Instead of asserting the hypothetical view which considers that the modernization of Mexican culture first started at the turn of the Century and lasted until the’40, when revolutionary regimes got their full consolidation, the author looks upon the transformation of printing. According with him all these changes reflect the educational and cultural trends that went on in a society mostly formed by an illiterated population. Therefore appears important to know the different ways used for editing promotion; the ups and downs occurred in the newspaper edition; the increasing number of printing houses and the several changes they went through; the adoption of new technologies such as the rolling press and the Mergenthaler's linotype as well as the paper’s national production. All these items contributed to the modernization of Mexican printing and paved the way for the improvement of the material conditions that allowed the further spreading of postrevolutionary Mexican literary culture.
