Author Biography

Pierre Bourdieu, Centre de Sociologie européenne; Collège de France, France

French sociologist; was born in the region of Béarn, located south west of France. He studied at the Ecole Normale Superieure (France) and at the Sorbonne in Paris, on issues of philosophy. He taught at several universities in France and Algeria, as well as director of the "School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences" and Professor of Sociology at the "Collège de France", where he was the first sociologist to receive the gold medal awarded by the same institution (1993).
Its research covers many areas of sociology, however focuses on the sociology of culture and education. His bibliography is very extensive; His major works are "The task of the sociologist" (1968), "The practicality" (1980), "What does speak" (1982), "The rules of art" (1992), "The Weight of the World" (1993), "male domination" (1998), among others.
From 1964 he was the editor of the magazine "Le sens commun" and in 1968 participated in the founding of the Center for European Sociology. In 1995 he founded the group and subsequently editorial "Raison d'agir". He died on January 23, 2002 in Paris, at the age of 71 years.
