Utilización de plasma rico en plaquetas para regeneración periodontal en un perro
Main Article Content
Abstract
A goal in periodontal therapy is the regeneration of periodontal tissues. This process occurs by the action of growth factors (GF), which regulate either proliferation, differentiation, chemotaxis and synthesis of the extra-cellular matrix. These phenomena have led to propose that these factors play an important role in the regeneration of soft and hard tissues. Growth factors can be obtained from platelets in the form of platelet Rich Plasma. The purpose of this study was to observe the periodontal regeneration accomplished by using Platelet Rich Plasma in an animal model (dog). The day prior to the surgery, the blood was extracted in order to separate platelets. The dog was anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital, and osseous defects were created in the furcation of bilateral mandibular third bicuspid and fist molars. Platelet Rich Plasma with bone graft were used in two sides; another site was treated only with bone graft; and a fourth site was left as control. After 6 weeks, the dog was sacrificed with an overdose of barbiturates. Complete blocks were obtained for histological examination. Bone and periodontal ligament showed a better organization in sites where platelet rich plasma was combined with bone graft. In
the site treated only with bone graft, zones of resorption were observed. In the control site, epithelial invasion was present.
