Emprendimiento y empleabilidad en la industria de la fertilidad: el caso de las gestantes “subrogadas” de California (EUA)

Resumen

Los avances tecnológicos, las dificultades en la adopción internacional y las diferencias legislativas han transformado el acceso y las prácticas relativas a la atención reproductiva transnacional, desarrollándose un mercado en el que circula material genético y personas con deseos reproductivos que no pueden verse cumplidos en sus países de origen. En dicho contexto, este capítulo explora la gestación por sustitución desde el punto de vista de las mujeres que gestan para terceros en California, Estados Unidos, centrándose en los discursos de aquellas que fundan sus propias empresas. La práctica de la gestación por sustitución en California nos permitirá analizar el fenómeno de la “empresarialización” y empleabilidad de las gestantes por sustitución (la liberalización del mercado reproductivo, la jurisprudencia, la doctrina de la intención, la aceptación social de esta práctica y los marcos morales que permiten a los actores sociales darle sentido y legitimidad social).
