Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico, we trans* people have faced severe difficulties that affect our everyday lives. Confinement has been especially hard on trans* youth for whom the reduced positive social interaction meant decreased recognition of their identity. In this context, social media and online spaces became crucial tools to widen and strengthen support networks. As co-facilitators of Teen Titans, a peer group for trans youth, we made use of online platforms as a way to continue our work in the virtual realm. In this article, we describe the experiences that were common for the members of the group during the first two years of the pandemic, the lessons we learned and the challenges we faced as facilitators of Teen Titans, and we reflect on the practices that have been helpful for us in sustaining care through solidarity and mutual aid.
