LA LEY DE THIRLWALL: UNA LECTURA CRÍTICA

Abstract
Este artículo realiza una crítica empírica y teórica al modelo de crecimiento poskeynesiano conocido como la Ley de Thirlwall. En lo empírico, se muestra que los ejercicios econométricos están probando que en el largo plazo exportaciones e importaciones crecen a una tasa aproximadamente igual. Respecto a la consistencia teórica de la ley, se construye un modelo de una economía abierta para examinar el papel de los factores de la demanda externa y los de la oferta en la determinación de las exportaciones de un país considerando el caso de pequeñas y grandes economías. Esta distinción permite conciliar los resultados de la ley con el enfoque de demanda presente en ésta y mostrar que la ley es inoperante en economías pequeñas.
